  • cldJan 01, 2025

Home is not just some walls and windows, not just a place to be comfortable but where an individual decides to live. It is the only place we arrange and put stuff that fits our needs and wants. It is the place about which we can say it is ours. A home is everything to a person, but something so dear to us must have everything we want to have, right? This "want" can vary for different people. The definition of need can be something for a person and something completely different for someone else. Here, we will discuss

What Millennials and Gen Z Seek in a Home: Emerging Trends and Insights

Let's dive into it.

Millennials

Who are millennials? Millennials are the generation aged 24 to 39 who are more educated and intelligent than Gen Z. The people of this generation perfectly know what is right and what is wrong, what we truly need, and what is just materialism. The generation has been through a great recession and discipline, so they know the actual value of money. When talking of modernism, they are a bit off-fashion, but what they truly seek at home are these things.

  • Bold and Vibrant colors: As mentioned before, they have been through a recession, so it should not be a question of why they like bright and vibrant colors. They want their homes to have bold designs and patterns.
  • Entertainment: Millenials always love to upgrade their living spaces, such as living rooms, kitchens, outdoor spaces, and more, for entertainment.
  • Greenery: Millenials are attracted to greenery, which is really great. They need a place where they can make their kitchen garden, flowers and more.
  • Home wellness: They invest in technology that is necessary for a healthy life, such as water and air filtration systems.

Gen Z

Who are Gen Z's? They are digital animals aged 9 to 23, people with a positive approach, and potential change-makers. Although the oldest in this category is around 20, they don't usually own a home yet but have things they want in their homes. This techy generation has seen their parents and siblings struggle to get what they want and also to get jobs, so they are programmed in a way that makes them more conservative and practical.

  • Branded Things: This generation believes in getting stuff that comes with a well-known name, which is understandable because branded things come with trust and offers as well.
  • Home workshops: Gen Z is more fascinated with having everything at home; this generation wants offices, craft rooms, or gyms to be at home, which makes these workshops easily accessible.
  • Aesthetic Appeal: Gen Z wants their homes to look aesthetically appealing, which means that they should not be very bright or contrasty; they want something dark and matte.
  • Flexible Designs: Modern furniture with multiple uses, like a couch that can turn into a bed, a foldable table, Bunk beds, or anything that saves time and space.
